PW vs CSK Match 31 Review IPL4

April 27th Mumbai

Pune Warriors lost a lone battle waged by Yuvraj Singh as Chennai Super Kings eased past them with a remarkable knock off unbeaten 63. CSK registered a 8 wicket win with 3 balls to spare. in home of PW, Navi Mumbai. This is their 4 th win in this IPL4 season overall and must have made Dhoni happy as it was first one in away venues finally in 31s match of IPL.

ChBadrinath_CSKasing a small total of 142 to win, CSK never really looked in trouble with an inform Badrinath who scored 63 out of just 44. Suresh Raina avoided any tense moments out of the chase as he chipped in with a important 34 not out . Their 65 run partnership for third wicket came of just 47 balls. This was Chennai’s consecutive win over Pune but this time it was the much needed away win. For Pune its 4th loss in a line. Chennai played with Kulasekhara as replacement for injured Albie morkel

Yuvraj who struggled in last match came back in touch and waged a lone battle against the CSK bowling line-up. Though made 62 of just 43 balls the hosts could only reach a total of 141/6 as their batsman failed to pickup Morkel and Bollinger. Baring Yuvraj and to an extent Robin Uthappa (31) none of them really looked with that confidence of playing a big innings. Hosts were down with 41 /  4 at a point of time and were revived by some clean hitting by the Yuvraj Singh.

The left hander found first stable partner in Robin Uthappa 31(22), made 42 runs for 5th wicket with him.  He followed  with a crucial partnership of 40 with Mitchell Marsh (11) to take the score board to 140. Bollinger was the dangerous customer from Chennai who finished with impressive figures of 3/21. His double wicket maiden over was a death blow to Pune’s top order batting. Tim Southee and R Ashwin got 1 wicket each as they played their part in the win once again aas they did in last match with Pune.

Choosing to bat first, Pune’s Ryder looked aggressive, hitting Kulasekera for 3 fours in a row after scoring slow in initial 2 overs. But Bollinger claimed 2 wickets in 2 yuVI_PUNEballs and gave death blow to them in the start of next over. Ryder and Moinish Mishra fell prey in that order as they tried to play pull shot of Left arm speedster. A Srikanth took a diving catch to send Ryder to pavilion, while Jakati a simple catch in the ring. Kulselkhara hit further murdered the Pune batting as he bowled Mithun Manhas with angled incoming delivery. PW were 37/3 at the end of power play as Yuvraj started his innings with a couple and followed it with boundary. Manish Pandey who came after 4 match ban was again unsuccessful in his second match of season as he got out trying to straight pull Southe and was caught by Ashwin.

As CSK brought Spinner Ashwin he was hit for couple of sixes by Robin Uthappa. He also attacked Jakati but fell looking for too many runs. He top edged Ashwin and they was again Anirudha Srikanth diving in third man area to catch it. Robin who took 22 balls to reach his 21 took the score to 80 in 13 overs as he left.

In the next over Yuvraj hit his first six of Ashwin and PW reached 91 in 15 overs. Bollinger who returned for spell in 17 th over was greeted by Yuvi with a Sixer. In the next he hit Southee for one over the ropes to get to get to a half century in style in just 39 balls. Last 5 overs they claimed 40 runs.15 in last over with 2 sixes of Yuvraj’s blade.

Later loosing in-form Hussey who although looked out of touch to Murali Kaththik in 5th over, Murali vijay and Badrinath played steadily as they reach 75 in 11 overs. Vijay fell to Ryder in the next as he tried to attack. All through the attack Chennai run-worm was ahead of Pune in 13th over as Raina tried to settle. Raina and Badri hit 2 maximum’s each. They followed the Ariel route as the required run-rate appeared to be increasing after 15th over.

In the end it was cool chase for Chennai with 3 balls and 7 wickets to spare.

CSK Vs PW Match 29 IPL 4 Review :

Chennai Super kings successfully defended a below par score 142 against Sahara Pune Warriors. But this is how it started  :)

So, here we have both teams sitting on 4 points each ( but having played only 4 games each, so not to worry lots of action to come)… very crucial game for both in the tournament right now, which took place in Chennai which commanded a great deal of extra effort from the players to hold their breathes in the ridiculously humid temperatures. Pune Warrior’s skipper Yuvi won the toss and elected to field after his team’s poor performance batting front up. Now , it is true the pitch conditions hardly matter when a game of 40 overs is played, it all depends on who goes out there and do what they have to do, well. Still I felt yuvi would have been better of electing to bat, with such a disciplined line up of bowlers at his dispense, they would have been better off bowling second. Nevertheless, MS Dhoni was not displeased to be batting first.

PUNE VS Chennai

M.Vijay and M.Hussey gave the CSK fans a lot to cheer for with a splendid start, classic shot play and intelligent play. Vijay in mood to score off boundaries alone was a delight to watch while Hussey had quite a bit of luck on the field and kept the scoreboard ticking with timely chipping which ran back to the third man region to boundaries. CSK were sitting good @ 60 for no loss at 8.2 overs when yuvi dropped a tough catch of Hussey thus continuing Mr. Cricket lucky spell in the game. It took Pune’s A. Thomas’s glorious over to get Pune back into the game. An excellent piece of body line bowling to Vijay got the Chennai batsman back to the pavilion in the second ball quickly followed by S.Raina who was deceived by an excellent Yorker which ripped the stumps while Raina was attempting an ambitious over drive. The wicket smashing behind the batsmen is truly the best way for a bowler to get a wicket!

Suddenly the once well placed CSK are sitting at 66/2 in 10 overs (the lowest score by CSK in the first 10 overs in IPL 4). Here we had the captains showdown, Yuvi trying his hand at the ball while Dhoni mercilessly wacked the ball in his crude powerful way out of the park many a times. Dhoni & Hussey did well to get CSK to 85/2 @ 13 overs. Hussey reached the coveted 50 around the 15ish over. Soon followed by the skipper getting out in attempt of a shot that never was at 26 of 21 balls. At 17.2 overs Manish Pandey took a splendid catch at the boundary to rid off Hussey after scoring 61runs. The rest of the CSK line up quickly collapsed one after the other to J.Taylor ( of W.I) and none but Badrinath with a few boundaries towards the end could really make any improvements to the Chennai’s score. CSK ended up with a so-so score of 142/6. It was a very disciplined effort by the Pune bowlers, living up to their fame for being the most economical bowlers of the tournament.

2nd innings:

J.Ryder & M.Mishra opened for the Pune Warriors. Ryder went off to his typical blistering start with a good number of delightful strokes to the boundary. A. Morkel once again struck and was instrumental in getting early breakthroughs for Chennai. Mishra departed for 9 while Ryder still went Bang Bang Bang!!! It took an amazing bowl by Ashwin to outsmart the Kiwi who was stumped and got Chennai back into the game. Here we were at 4 overs 27/2, when M.Pandey came in (after quite some time! LOTS of pressure). We saw a couple of shots from the bat of Pandey, but from the word go it was very evident that he was extremely shaky and pressurizing himself. (Dude, relax!) If only he had survived a few overs he might have taken the game away from Chennai. It didn’t happen. He guided the ball to the stumps in an effort to drive it to third man for a boundary. In less than 2 seconds another former RCB player R.Uthappa departed thanks to terrible shot selection for a duck.

Yuvi was the only player from Pune who showed some or any nerves in this game. It was clear that it was he who would have to steer Pune to victory. With a mountain load over his shoulder and the blistering Chennai heat all over him, he was looking great while Pune sought 78 from 58 balls (Remember this was the same ground he scored his only world cup century). Yuvi’s 58 off 36 balls looked like the start of a fine innings which will win Pune the game but alas no one seemed to be able to stand at the other end for more than an over to some fine bowling by Chennai’s Ashwin and Bollinger and some sensational fielding effort by the team esp.Jakati. all the efforts paid off when Jakati took a superb catch to rid Yuvi and thus Pune’s hope of the game. After Yuvi nothing worth mention happened with the Pune team’s chase as they swindled down to 33 off 8 to 30 off 6 till it was all over and CSK won the game by 25 glorious runs. Chennai took this clash home quite easily. M.Hussey was declared man of the match amongst many deserving candidates. ( which was pretty disappointing, considering it was bowlers like Ashwin, Bollinger or even Jakati who won the match for Chennai & that Hussey scored more than half his runs behind the wicket and had at least 3 lives awarded by the Pune players.)

Well, it was Hussey and CSK’s day and all is well that ends well and Chennai move higher up the points table.

IPL 4

CSK and KTK both back after a win against RCB and MI respectively are going to fight it out in home of tuskers. KTK fans who couldn't bag the tickets for the first game, eager to the watch their 2nd home game must have bagged their tickets for this one.

Moreover how these teams played their last games also sets the pitch for this one. If CSK crushed RCB by 21 runs with great knock of Hussey, Kochi Tuskers dumped the Big Mumbai Indians with solid contribution from Jayawardane and Mcullum away from their home.

This match invokes great interest as defending Champions CSK are looking great with batting line-up of great depth and varied pace attack. CSK will surely look foreward to repeat of good contribution at top from Mike Hussey and Murali Vijay. Their middle order has been consistent with Raina, Badri , Captain dhoni and Cracker yet to explode fully in Albie Morkel. Unless someone from KTK is going to play the Paul Velathi game its going to be Ashiwin, Tim southe, Jakati, Randiv and again Albie posing a tough challenge the rival batsman. KTK is resurgent side.

It shouldn't be forgotten that even though the win against the best side of tournament, Mumbai Indians was thier first one, thier first 2 games were close games. So KTK have every reason to be confident about repeating the result of last match. It seems unlikely that Jayawardane would change the winning side from 3rd match which had three changes from the prior game. But the big names left out in VVS Laxman Sreesanth and Murali, who were replaced by Ramesh Powar, Kedar Jadhav and Parera invoke curiosity towards playing XI. This Game being played at Kochi home might influence the selection.

Jayawardane would expect himself and Mcullum to fire again solidly. He would expect Hodge and potentially explosive Jadeja to recreate the magic too. Parera's contribution will be interesting and crucial. Bowling is a concern for Jayawardane and would hold a key so as what target they might defend or chase.

I feel that pressure would be on KTK because of easy win that chennai scored in last game. However that might work against CSK themselves as they can't underestimate this KTK side at home.

Which is your pick ?! Tuskers or Whistlers :) Vote here

CSK Win it – But close

Chennai: CSK won the IPL opening thriller and survived a close shave that could have gone either way. Tim Southe excelled in his last over with tough Yorkers.

KKR chasing 153 got off to a good start with Kallis and Bisla amassing 64 runs in 9.3 overs. Kallis looked in excellent touch, when he hit Southee for three 4’s in 4th over to get it rolling. It was going good for KKR as Dhoni missed a chance of stumping Manavinder Bisla, the same over. However Dhoni could finally stump when he came on front foot off Randiv in 9 th over.

It was Yusuf Pathan’s turn to hit a six and get run out by direct hit off Dhoni from square leg.

KKR was fine and looked to finish easy when they were 111/2 in 15. Next over R Ashwin got Kallis at 54 (7x4) caught by Badri in short fine-leg. Dhoni stumped again, this time Morgan off Raina in next over. A fumbled run out of Gambhir followed in next over.

KKR now needed 34 of 19 with Manoj Tiwary and L R Shukla on strike. Next over of Randiv, Tiwary hit 2 sixes and Shukla a boundary, which eased the equation. Dhoni stumped again in next over. This time It was Tiwary who was going for big one in last ball of next over. 9 were needed of 6 last over. Tim southee got Shukla second ball after he score a double. He just gave 6 runs in last over and won it for CSK.

Earlier CSK got to 153 thanks to opening batsman Anirudha Srikkanth.(6x4; 2x6) who was dropped twice by KKR. Raina (33) and Dhoni (29) made important contributions. Kallis was most successful bowler for KKR with 2 wickets but went for 34 runs in three overs. Mainly due to hitting of Albie Morkel 15(9) in last over of Kallis, they managed to get 16 of it.

Positives for CSK

They are as awesome side that they were. “Captain Cool” is super cool even with High expectations.

Positives for KKR

Apart from the outcome of the match, It was Interesting to see “New” KKR fight for the match. Manoj tiwari and Shukla batted well. Kallis seems like he will be strength of KKR like he was to RCB.

Chennai Super Kings:

S. Anirudha 64 (55b, 6x4, 2x6) (MOM)

Kallis (2/34)

Kolkata Knight Riders

J. Kallis 54 (42b, 7x4)

Jakati (1/26)

Ashwin(1/26)

Battle of Friends | Dhoni vs Gambhir | CSK vs KKR

CSK VS KKR

IPL OPNER

kkr_logo

In less than a week time , two World Cup Final heroes who collectively steered INDIA to victory are now, on opposite sides. Even significantly Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir leading their respective teams Chennai super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight riders (KKR) and are set for for opening match of IPL 4 2011.

CSK-KKR Head to Head: Played 6 Won 4.

Going by just what it looks like, IPL defending Champions CSK are favorites at home ground to win against KKR. But that's not all as KKR is completely new side. Their owner Shahrukh khan seemed so desperate to have an almost new team that he didn’t care to bid for DADA. If their young guns fire then it’s going to be a interesting contest for an IPL opener.

Let’s have closer look at this “battle of friends” going to me held in Chennai.

If Dhoni has huge expectations on him as a World cup winning and title defending captain, Gambhir has extreme pressure on him of reviving a Franchise / team which hasn’t reached the top 4 in last three years. Further it is up to him to win back the full support of cricket crazy Kolkatans who are unhappy with absence of Sourav Ganguly in the team.

Having a T20 Specialist batsman Yusuf Pathan in team in good for KKR, who will be more than handy in bowling too. He can singled handedly win some for KKR just as he did for Rajasthan Royals previous seasons.

It will be tough to pass super consistent CSK, who has been in final 4 all the 3 seasons, as they are much the same side. Except Muttiah Muralitharan (now with Kochi Tuskers) they have managed to keep all key players in Consistent Subramanium Badrinath, local boy Murali Vijay, flamboyant Suresh Raina, spinner Ashwin and off course successful captain Dhoni with themselves.

Dhoni feels that his team is good on paper but has to deliver on match day as he always reiterates which ever team he is leading.

Dhoni was quoted saying: “If all the players are fit and available for selection, it is a very good side. The batting line-up is as good as last year. Badri, Raina are there and South African Faf du Plessis has come in. We have all-rounders and Hussey will also join in. Overall, it’s a very good batting line-up. IPL is not about less pressure. Batting slots are decided according to situation. When all are shuffled up and down the order, it’s according to the situation. Batting slots from 1-3 are fixed, then it’s me or Badri. Aniruddh is batting very well for us. If we have to change the batting order, everyone has to be comfortable about doing it.”

A lot will depend on how experienced all-rounder Jaques Kallis and England’s batting star Morgan perform, as Bangla’s Shakib Al Hasan and Australian pacer Lee will join only Australia vs Bangladesh series. Domestic players like Manoj Tiwary, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, All rounder Rajat bhatia L balaji.

Gambhir who has been having average IPL tournaments with bat should use his world cup winning knock’s confidence into molding KKR into successful side. That way he will justify his 2.4 million $ price, which is the highest bid in auction.
