Statistics:

1. When Irfan Pathan caught Yusuf Pathan, it was the first instance of any of two Pathan brothers  playing a role in other’s dismissal in IPL.

2. First win for KKR in Feroz Shah Kotla against the home team, Delhi.

3. It was 5th loss for Delhi Daredevils, 2nd in a row.

4. Jacques Kallis is the leading run-scorer for Kolkata - 244 (averaging 40.66), with 3 half centuries, in seven matches in the IPL 4. Its third highest after Tendulkar (264) and Velathy (249)

7 .David Warner, with 238 runs averaging 34.00 in 7 matches is the leading run scorer for Delhi Daredevils.

8. Venugopal rao is only the third DD batsman to score more than 200 in this IPL 4. He did so during his innings vs KKR of 19(18). Is this the greatness of Rao or indicates the weak delhi batting.

DD vs KKR Match Preview 33 IPL4

Delhi Daredevils face of with Kolkata knight riders on Thursday as both teams look to win while DD being more desperate for it. Ex-team mates who know each other’s strengths have played under each other. Sehwag still a Delhi Daredevil would enjoy more support as he is batting his ex-team mate.

Looking at captains Gambhir guiding his team to 3 victories out of 5 matches has been consistent himself. With 194 runs made in 5 matches and good strike rate of 135 kkr_logo he has lead from the front. Sehwag on the other hand taking his team to win only in 2 matches out of 6 which they played. He has scored 174 runs in 6 matches at a stupendous strike rate of 170,but has not been consistent. Gambhir who was very unhappy with the batting conditions in home kotla ground should be happy now as the pitch is much more livened up.

Kolkata though started great with three wins followed up with two straight losses. The confidence however must be undeterred as they still have 9 games left in the tournament and the initial wins were solid enough compared to the lows they had in previous seasons. Morgan being the non-former till now should be replaced by Lee. Kallis, Shakib Al Hasan and Haddin will play as usual. Tiwary is yet to deliver the goods in the best way he can for KKR. Strengthened by Lee’s inclusion KKR should be calmed down of their bowling worries. Their young brigade has been contributing as per expectations.dd_logo

For Delhi has been consistently inconsistent. Except Sehwag and Warner to an extent no batsman has played consistently for them. Thier team performance has not been any better. James hopes who looked as if he found some form in last games will be the key in both batting in bowling department if they loose early wickets. Varun Aaron should be played back instead of Dinda or Umesh Yadav who were not really effective in last game. Young Varun in spite of going for runs in high scoring game vs KXIP claimed important wickets. Morne Morkel has been the best leading the bowling attact and should continue to delivers goods for them. Pathan generated some element of spark in batting in end of innings of last match. However his bowling will be the key as he hasn’t struck his best form at all till now in this tournament. With kotla offering some initial movement it will be good to watch him start proceedings.

It will be partnership or David-Warner OR Kallis-Gambhir that will change the game according to me. Lets wait and watch which Delhi who moves close to the dream of last 4.

DADA | Great Indian Captain | Unlucky KKR Skipper

Great news! KKR are table toppers. (Point's Table here) I read articles and comments praising the new team. Now that is understandable :) They deserve all the praise. BUT i also see people commenting that Ganguly's exclusion did the magic for KKR. Firstly people should stop jumping to conclusions early. In fact, Season 1 and Season 3 also KKR started with 2 wins under Ganguly. Agreed that the sprit which the team is showing is amazing with Gambhir leading from front. However, I am completely against with view that DADA’S exclusion from this team has brought changes in fortunes of KKR.
Ganguly
Few random facts about KKR in IPL overall:

  • KKR lost 14 out of 28 games under Ganguly's captaincy
  • KKR lost 10 games out of 14 under Mculum's captaincy
  • KKR was most effected in by rain in IPL1 in 2 crucial matches.
  • SRK is the ONLY owner, who comments on team strategies and key team issues in media. (sometimes overtaking the captain/coach). Fact also is that he doesn't know anything much about cricket.
  • DADA has scores 1032 runs in 40 matches at an average of 28.7 for KKR. He has also taken 8 wickets effecting positively with his bowling at least in 3 matches.
  • DADA had to anchor the innings in all the seasons, because of inconsistency and presence of too many explosive batsman.
  • KKR under DADA was very unlucky in loosing Pakistan Players like Shoaid Akthar, Umar Gul etc. They missed out on good players as getting replacements of same level could not happen.

Firstly KKR should have bid for DADA. Especially knowing that they did not give him a continuous stint of captaincy to him and owners creating unnecessary controversies and meddling with team affairs. And for the biggest reason that, KKR fans would love to see 2 names always together Kolkata and Ganguly, they should have.

Their argument for not bidding was that Gangly couldn't be the explosive opening batsman which they wanted. In fact I strongly feel that lack of batsman in previous team who could efficiently anchor the innings like Jaques Kallis in present team is the reason for how Ganguly batted out his innings. I wish he can just magically play some games with the current team and show what he can do. DADA was also unlucky as even though they had young talents like Ishant Sharma, Tiwary or Dinda, they never seem to deliver the best which they were capable of. Especially Ishant who bowled so exceptionally for Indian team till his association with KKR lost the magic.

It's a fact that KKR under Ganguly couldn't reach he last 4. But with inconsistent team that he had and a turn of events which just completely went against him DADA should be given the credit for what he has done for KKR. For a legend that he his, he more than deserves to mentor his home KKR team. I at least wish he can get a chance to play with other IPL teams to have some questions answered. Remembering the days where he came back to Indian team and retired on a high, I feel he will do something similar here. Good luck Dada.

If KKR is doing good now it makes sense to appreciate the team. And is completely rubbish to reason that Ganguly’s absence is helping them. There is nothing common from last KKR team to this team except SRK and off course this is a better team.

Ganguly’s experience would have only helped the team to do better and nothing otherwise.

Poll : KKR with Ganguly would have performed better ?? Vote here

CSK Win it – But close

Chennai: CSK won the IPL opening thriller and survived a close shave that could have gone either way. Tim Southe excelled in his last over with tough Yorkers.

KKR chasing 153 got off to a good start with Kallis and Bisla amassing 64 runs in 9.3 overs. Kallis looked in excellent touch, when he hit Southee for three 4’s in 4th over to get it rolling. It was going good for KKR as Dhoni missed a chance of stumping Manavinder Bisla, the same over. However Dhoni could finally stump when he came on front foot off Randiv in 9 th over.

It was Yusuf Pathan’s turn to hit a six and get run out by direct hit off Dhoni from square leg.

KKR was fine and looked to finish easy when they were 111/2 in 15. Next over R Ashwin got Kallis at 54 (7x4) caught by Badri in short fine-leg. Dhoni stumped again, this time Morgan off Raina in next over. A fumbled run out of Gambhir followed in next over.

KKR now needed 34 of 19 with Manoj Tiwary and L R Shukla on strike. Next over of Randiv, Tiwary hit 2 sixes and Shukla a boundary, which eased the equation. Dhoni stumped again in next over. This time It was Tiwary who was going for big one in last ball of next over. 9 were needed of 6 last over. Tim southee got Shukla second ball after he score a double. He just gave 6 runs in last over and won it for CSK.

Earlier CSK got to 153 thanks to opening batsman Anirudha Srikkanth.(6x4; 2x6) who was dropped twice by KKR. Raina (33) and Dhoni (29) made important contributions. Kallis was most successful bowler for KKR with 2 wickets but went for 34 runs in three overs. Mainly due to hitting of Albie Morkel 15(9) in last over of Kallis, they managed to get 16 of it.

Positives for CSK

They are as awesome side that they were. “Captain Cool” is super cool even with High expectations.

Positives for KKR

Apart from the outcome of the match, It was Interesting to see “New” KKR fight for the match. Manoj tiwari and Shukla batted well. Kallis seems like he will be strength of KKR like he was to RCB.

Chennai Super Kings:

S. Anirudha 64 (55b, 6x4, 2x6) (MOM)

Kallis (2/34)

Kolkata Knight Riders

J. Kallis 54 (42b, 7x4)

Jakati (1/26)

Ashwin(1/26)

Battle of Friends | Dhoni vs Gambhir | CSK vs KKR

CSK VS KKR

IPL OPNER

kkr_logo

In less than a week time , two World Cup Final heroes who collectively steered INDIA to victory are now, on opposite sides. Even significantly Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir leading their respective teams Chennai super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight riders (KKR) and are set for for opening match of IPL 4 2011.

CSK-KKR Head to Head: Played 6 Won 4.

Going by just what it looks like, IPL defending Champions CSK are favorites at home ground to win against KKR. But that's not all as KKR is completely new side. Their owner Shahrukh khan seemed so desperate to have an almost new team that he didn’t care to bid for DADA. If their young guns fire then it’s going to be a interesting contest for an IPL opener.

Let’s have closer look at this “battle of friends” going to me held in Chennai.

If Dhoni has huge expectations on him as a World cup winning and title defending captain, Gambhir has extreme pressure on him of reviving a Franchise / team which hasn’t reached the top 4 in last three years. Further it is up to him to win back the full support of cricket crazy Kolkatans who are unhappy with absence of Sourav Ganguly in the team.

Having a T20 Specialist batsman Yusuf Pathan in team in good for KKR, who will be more than handy in bowling too. He can singled handedly win some for KKR just as he did for Rajasthan Royals previous seasons.

It will be tough to pass super consistent CSK, who has been in final 4 all the 3 seasons, as they are much the same side. Except Muttiah Muralitharan (now with Kochi Tuskers) they have managed to keep all key players in Consistent Subramanium Badrinath, local boy Murali Vijay, flamboyant Suresh Raina, spinner Ashwin and off course successful captain Dhoni with themselves.

Dhoni feels that his team is good on paper but has to deliver on match day as he always reiterates which ever team he is leading.

Dhoni was quoted saying: “If all the players are fit and available for selection, it is a very good side. The batting line-up is as good as last year. Badri, Raina are there and South African Faf du Plessis has come in. We have all-rounders and Hussey will also join in. Overall, it’s a very good batting line-up. IPL is not about less pressure. Batting slots are decided according to situation. When all are shuffled up and down the order, it’s according to the situation. Batting slots from 1-3 are fixed, then it’s me or Badri. Aniruddh is batting very well for us. If we have to change the batting order, everyone has to be comfortable about doing it.”

A lot will depend on how experienced all-rounder Jaques Kallis and England’s batting star Morgan perform, as Bangla’s Shakib Al Hasan and Australian pacer Lee will join only Australia vs Bangladesh series. Domestic players like Manoj Tiwary, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, All rounder Rajat bhatia L balaji.

Gambhir who has been having average IPL tournaments with bat should use his world cup winning knock’s confidence into molding KKR into successful side. That way he will justify his 2.4 million $ price, which is the highest bid in auction.
